How to use the JSON viewer

  1. Paste JSON, drop a file on the input, or click Open file. The tree appears straight away.
  2. Click the arrow next to an object or array to open it, or use Expand all, Collapse and the level menu.
  3. Type in the search box to find keys and values; use the arrows or Enter to step through matches. The tree opens to show each one.
  4. Click a row to see its JSONPath (for example $.users[3].email) and full value, then copy either.

Keyboard

Focus the tree, then use Up and Down to move, Right to expand, Left to collapse or go to the parent, Home and End to jump, and Enter to copy the selected node's path.

Only the rows on screen are drawn, so even a tree with hundreds of thousands of nodes scrolls smoothly. Badges show each value's type, and objects and arrays show how many items they hold.

Frequently asked questions

How big a file can it open?

Files of 5 to 10 MB open in a second or two on a typical laptop. Parsing happens once, and the tree only renders the rows you can see.

What if my JSON is invalid?

You will see the exact error position and a Repair it button. The repair tool fixes most problems and you can come back with the result.

Which path format is copied?

JSONPath, as used by many APIs and tools: dot notation for simple keys and bracket notation such as ['first name'] for keys with spaces or symbols.
