How to convert JSON to CSV
- Paste a JSON array of objects, or open a
.jsonfile. A single object becomes a one-row CSV. - If the records sit inside a wrapper such as
{"data": {"items": [...]}}, pick that array under Rows from. The most likely one is chosen for you. - Untick columns you do not need and use the arrows to change their order, then download the CSV.
How values are written
Nested objects are flattened with dots, so {"user": {"name": "Ada"}} becomes a user.name column. Arrays of plain values are joined with the separator you choose; arrays of objects are written as JSON text so nothing is lost. Fields containing the delimiter, quotes or line breaks are quoted following RFC 4180, and numbers are written exactly as they appear in the JSON.
Excel on Windows guesses the wrong encoding for UTF-8 files without a byte-order mark; tick Add BOM if names with accents look garbled. In regions where Excel expects semicolons, choose the semicolon delimiter.
Frequently asked questions
What if objects have different keys?
Every key found in any row becomes a column, in the order first seen. Rows without a value get an empty cell.
Can I convert CSV back to JSON?
Yes, with the CSV to JSON tool. Turn on nested keys there and dotted headers become objects again.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser and the file is created on your device.
